앞에서 본 모습은 뱀을 닮았다. A front view of swallowtail caterpillar seems like snake.

위협을 느끼면 머리와 몸통 사이에서 취각을 내미는데, 진한 식초 비슷한 냄새가 난다. If swallowtail butterfly caterpillar is disturbed, it unveils osmeterium which is V-shaped tubular glands right behind the head of a larva. Osmeterium secretes a strong ordorous fluid whose smell likes vinegar.
